Welcome to the Dawhat AlJazeera Art Exhibition 2011

25th May, 2011

Following a challenging and exciting academic year, it gives me great pleasure to display some of the numerous works of art produced by my students from grades 1 to 6.

It also brings me personal satisfaction to witness and measure their skills
progress and develepment.

This is obvious in how precise their works have become and how subconsciously they

have started using technical art terms in their daily life vocabulary.

It's time to go on vacations, but it's also time to reflect on what I have to improve on for next year.

We can always make things better!!

Wish you all happy, healthy and relaxed vacations and... In September, God willing, we will be back to bring out the best in our junior artists!

Form

There is a big difference between shape and form, so yesterday was the time for the young ladies of grade 1A class to learn about it, making a soft sculpture. Well... stuffing and decorating an old sock! ;)
The objective was to make the girls express ideas by using a variety of media and tools to create a soft sculpture of oneself.
SUCCEEDED!!!

08 Marco - Dia Internacional da Mulher

PORQUÊ O DIA 8 DE MARÇO
Neste dia, do ano de 1857, as operárias têxteis de uma fábrica de Nova Iorque entraram em greve, ocupando a fábrica, para reivindicarem a redução de um horário de mais de 16 horas por dia para 10 horas. Estas operárias que, nas suas 16 horas, recebiam menos de um terço do salário dos homens, foram fechadas na fábrica onde, entretanto, se declarara um incêndio, e cerca de 130 mulheres morreram queimadas. Em 1910, numa conferência internacional de mulheres realizada na Dinamarca, foi decidido, em homenagem àquelas mulheres, comemorar o 8 de Março como "Dia Internacional da Mulher". De então para cá o movimento a favor da emancipação da mulher tem tomado forma, tanto em Portugal como no resto do mundo.

O QUE SE PRETENDE COM A CELEBRAÇÃO DESTE DIA
Pretende-se chamar a atenção para o papel e a dignidade da mulher e levar a uma tomada de consciência do valor da pessoa, perceber o seu papel na sociedade, contestar e rever preconceitos e limitações que vêm sendo impostos à mulher.
